Why Tesla windshields are different
Tesla windshields carry the forward camera assembly behind the glass near the rearview mirror. The camera bracket must be transferred to the new windshield precisely, and the glass has to match your model so the cameras look through the correct optical area.
Model 3 and Model Y windshields are large, and the glass is specific to each model and production change — so we match the exact part by VIN before your appointment.
Camera calibration after replacement
After a windshield replacement, Tesla's camera calibration needs to be reset. The car then recalibrates its cameras as you drive, and some Autopilot features stay unavailable until that finishes — typically after a short drive on well-marked roads.
We reset calibration on site and walk you through what to expect on your first drive, so there's no separate service center visit.
Is Tesla windshield replacement covered by insurance?
Usually, yes. If your auto policy was issued in Florida and includes comprehensive coverage, Florida Statute 627.7288 says the deductible doesn't apply to windshield damage — so a new windshield for your Tesla is typically $0, with camera calibration normally included in the claim when your vehicle needs it.
You also choose the shop: under s. 627.7291 your insurer can't require a particular glass company. Want to know what it costs without coverage? See our windshield replacement cost guide.
Why we ask for your VIN
The same model can use several different windshields depending on year and options — camera brackets, rain and light sensors, heated or acoustic glass, and head-up display zones. Your VIN tells us exactly which one your Tesla needs, so we bring the right glass the first time.
Tesla windshield FAQ
Is Tesla windshield replacement free in Florida?
If your auto policy was issued in Florida and includes comprehensive coverage, yes, typically. Florida Statute 627.7288 says the deductible doesn't apply to windshield damage, and camera calibration is normally part of the windshield claim when your vehicle needs it.
Do you calibrate Tesla cameras on site?
Yes. If your Tesla has a camera behind the windshield, we calibrate it on site right after the new windshield is installed — no dealer visit needed.
How long does a Tesla windshield replacement take?
Most replacements take about 60–90 minutes, plus calibration time when needed. Your technician will tell you the safe drive-away time for the adhesive used.
Do I need to go to a Tesla Service Center for a new windshield?
No. We replace Tesla windshields on site and reset camera calibration there too.
Why isn't Autopilot available right after my windshield replacement?
After calibration is reset, the car recalibrates its cameras while you drive. Autopilot features become available again once that process completes, usually after a short drive on well-marked roads.
